EduRobotics

Learn robotics by programming in a 3D simulator, free and with nothing to install

EduRobotics is CIRTA's robotics education platform: a 3D simulator that runs directly in the browser, with no software to install and no hardware to buy, so students and educators can learn to program robots from scratch.

What is EduRobotics?

It's a fully online e-learning platform designed to lower the barriers to entry into robotics. Instead of relying on a physical robotic arm — expensive, fragile, and limited to those who can afford it — EduRobotics offers a 3D simulation environment in the browser where anyone can write code, watch a robot move in real time, and make mistakes as many times as they want, at no cost and no risk.

The whole learning cycle happens in one place: the person writes or assembles their program, runs it on the robot's 3D model, and immediately sees whether the task was completed or what went wrong. That short trial-and-error cycle is key to learning robotics and programming without the friction or cost of a physical lab.

How does it work?

3D simulator in the browser

No installation required: it opens on any computer with a browser and an internet connection.

Blocks and code

Courses are taught with block-based programming for beginners, or directly with code for more advanced learners.

Collaborative robotics (UR5)

The simulator is modeled on a UR5-type collaborative robotic arm, the same kind of robot used in industry.

Free interactive courses

Guided learning paths designed to take a person from zero knowledge to programming real robot tasks.

Who is it for?

For school and university students, educators who want to bring robotics into the classroom without a budget for equipment, and anyone curious who wants to learn to program robots from scratch. Being free and requiring no installation, it makes it possible to scale access to STEM robotics education to far more people than a physical lab could reach.

It's also a useful tool for teachers who already work with robotics and need a reliable environment to practice before bringing an activity to the classroom, or to complement in-person classes with exercises students can repeat from home.

What do you learn in the course track?

The courses start from the most basic concepts — what a collaborative robot is, how it moves through space, what its joints and end effector are — and progress toward more complex tasks such as picking up and placing objects, following defined trajectories, and chaining instructions together to solve a complete problem. Each course combines brief theory with hands-on exercises directly on the simulator, so learning is always validated by doing, not just reading.

Why does CIRTA do this?

EduRobotics is part of CIRTA's goal of reducing educational gaps in science and technology: the simulator serves as a low-cost entry point for building robotics talent, and as a foundation on which — in future stages — it is possible to integrate real hardware for those who want to keep advancing.

We believe access to robotics shouldn't depend on how much budget a school or university has to buy equipment. That's why EduRobotics is, and will remain, free for students and educators: the barrier to entry for learning robotics should be zero.
