Workshops

Hands-on workshops to lose the fear of getting started in robotics

CIRTA's workshops are hands-on, in-person sessions where anyone, with no prior experience, programs and watches a robot run in the EduRobotics simulator. Their goal isn't to make robotics look easy, but to take that first concrete step to get started — a step that many people struggle to take simply because they don't know where to start or what they need to learn.

Why do we run workshops?

Everyone who works in robotics today once started knowing nothing about the field, and that initial stage is usually the hardest: not because the concepts are impossible to understand, but because it isn't even clear what to start studying or where to begin. CIRTA's workshops are designed exactly for that moment: guided sessions, supported by our team, where someone with no background at all can take that first step concretely and leave knowing what to keep learning afterward.

How do they work?

The workshops are held on the EduRobotics simulator, so there's no need to buy or bring any robot: just a computer. Before each workshop we send simple instructions to prepare the computer that will be used, so that on the day of the workshop everyone can jump straight into programming without wasting time on setup.

Workshops held

Robotic arm workshop

A hands-on workshop on a collaborative robotic arm, where participants learn the fundamentals of its movements and program simple manipulation tasks in the simulator, moving from theory to watching the robot execute its own code.

ROV workshop

A workshop on remotely operated underwater vehicles (ROVs), where participants learn how they work and how to operate them in simulated exploration missions in the simulator.

Who are they for?

For school and university students, educators looking for hands-on activities to motivate their students, and anyone who wants to take their first step in robotics but doesn't know how to start. No prior experience or technical knowledge is required: the workshops are designed precisely for those starting from zero who need a clear guide on where to begin.

Why does CIRTA do this?

The workshops complement the work we do with EduRobotics: while the simulator lets anyone learn on their own from home, the in-person workshops add the support of our team in person, for those who are just taking that first step and prefer to have someone beside them to answer the most basic questions, without judgment. Both formats share the same CIRTA goal: reducing barriers to access to science and technology education, starting with the simplest barrier of all, which is not knowing how to take the first step.
